QUIZ CARDS

By Gums

All right all you veterans out there, here is a simple little quiz for you that I will leave up for a couple weeks while I write another nasty editorial for this page.

First let me give ya a little background on the quiz. The two items in the pictures below (don't cheat and scroll down yet) were given to me by a "door gunner" on a "Huey" chopper from Viet Nam. A lot of you visiting this site will know him personally, so I won't use his name, I'll just call him "BAIT". He got the items while flying a rescue mission near the Cambodian border. Seems he had rescued a badly wounded Marine gunny Sgt. and his team who were a members of a "s.o.g." that had been behind enemy lines for about 3 weeks and had taken some heavy casualties. The Sgt. gave the two items to "BAIT" just before he died from his wounds.

The way it was explained to me, the Sgt. told "BAIT" that he had taken ten of these items into the field with him some three weeks ago and only had the chance to use eight of them. He then ask "BAIT" to try and use the other two for him. My friend "BAIT" never had the chance to use them either. Instead he gave them to me and told me "never forget"!!! As you can see by the pictures, I still have them today.

Now here are the four questions for you--And yes I already have the true story on these items and they are real!

  1. WHAT ARE THESE ITEMS? (if you don't know the exact answer--don't guess)!
  2. HOW WERE THEY USED AND BY WHOM?(I don't want to hear how you "THINK" they were used)
  3. WHAT DOES THE SAYING ON THE BACK MEAN IN ENGLISH?(EXACTLY)
  4. WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR USING THESE ITEMS?( there was a real reason for the use of these)
If you don't know the exact answer to all four questions, you are probably just guessing. Anyone who had any thing to do with these items most likely will not talk about them but will know the correct answer to all four questions! I know most all of you out there have never used one of these but one never knows. These items were not a common item and were very hard to find. I have been told that one could get in some serious shit for just having one in their posession---OK--let's hear what ya got to say--You can email me at the address above. You do not have to leave your name in your reply if you so choose.

I havent seen one of these calling cards in a long long time. We would leave them on dead gooks and it would really piss off and scare the NVA and Cong. They were supersticous of the Ace of Spades. I have forgotten over the years what they said on the back. Something about bad luck or superstition I think. We would leave these cards on the dead until we ran out and then we would use regular Ace of Spades from a card deck. When we ran out of those, we would just write on the gooks with a magic marker. Usually our outfit or insignia to let them know who did the job! really pissed them off! The guy in the picture along with his squad got too close to us one night along a trail. We had no cards so we just wrote on him with a marker.

The unit patch drawn on the chest is that of the "1st Air Cavalry Division." Under the navel it say's "GOOD GOOK" as in the phrase "The only good gook is a dead gook." He was KIA near Quang Tri City in June of 1968.
