SUNDANCE LOUNGE

BEFORE THE DAY'S OF YUPPIES, BLOCKHEADS AND EVO'S,......THERE WAS THE SUNDANCE LOUNGE!!

We have all seen so called biker bar's come and go. Very few if any stay in our minds and hearts for very long though. The SUNDANCE LOUNGE was one bar that will never be forgotten by those who called it home. The people of the Sundance were a very close group of bikers and others who didn't like outsiders. Sundance wasn't one of those bars where a yuppie parked his thirty thousand dollar chopper out front and slid in to have a brew with his bro's. We had to get to know someone before he was welcome. We weren't stuck up, we just didn't like outsiders till we got to know them. Just some short memories: I remember three very young pledges for some college group being dropped off at our front door. Never seen a more scared threesome in my life. Seems they were told to go in the bar, stay at least an hour and bring back proof that they were there. The first thing they saw was big Jim "Pig Bait" Page. All 6'4" of him with a shaved head and a sword in his ear as an ear ring. To keep this short, they got teased for about an hour, then we all had a ball and they stayed till closing. Did I note that all three were dressed in bed sheets like "Toga's" and nothing else? The crowd that hung at the Sundance was quite mixed too. There were a few gay guys there during the day (some even partied with us at night) and it was bikers at night. There was little Ronnie, the drag queen, who dressed as a female on Halloween night and every guy there (if they didn't know him) tried to pick him up. Then there was ole Betty, she lived next to the bar in the trailer park. She was a retired hooker who would come to the bar in her panties and a see through robe every morning for a couple of draft beers. What a trip!! Every one loved her!! There were a lot of good bar's back then like the Hide Away, the Causeway (the sewer), the Bell bar, the Beer box and a little later there was the Fisher Man's Cove, the Dead End and The Nowhere. They were all good in their own way. I don't think any were quite as close and loved like the Sundance. Hey...remember Jack the owner who we never did find out if he had balls or a beaver? How about his wife Pat who should have been named Pete if ya get my drift! Dozens of friends and names that are just to many to list here, but you know who you are. The one last name that must never be forgotten is "DJ" our favorite and best bartender in the world! DJ ruled with a leather wrapped AX handle named "Bertha" and she knew how to use it too. We all love ya DJ where ever ya are!! Any way, enjoy the memories (pictures) of some of the best times in our lives..."GUMS"
